A chapter of Romance Writers of America®, LRWA® was formed in March, 1993. The members all have one thing in common—an interest in the writing, reading, marketing, and success of all forms of fiction for women readers. We welcome writers of all genres to join us, whether you write romance, mystery, urban fantasy, or any of the other myriad genres being published today with women in mind.
January 23 workshop - Speaker Lexi Neill - “The Psychological Aspects of Attraction”
Speaker bio: Lexi Neill, In her writing life, Lexie O’Neill has been a member of LRWA since 2002. She waited to submit her writing until she thought it was “good enough” which would have been never if fellow LRWA members hadn’t given her a push. In the last year and few months, she’s been a finalist in the Linda Howard Award of Excellence Contest, the American Title IV, and the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. She is a professor of psychology at a small southeastern college with over 60 conference presentations and 15 professional publications on her resume. Her research has focused on volunteerism and parenting—and other social issues such as date rape and popularity. The psychology of attraction shouldn’t be a far step…
Workshop blurb: Psychological research studies will be used to stimulate discussion as to what makes someone attractive–what has been found to be important and what has not. Studies have even gotten to the point of describing chin shape–important–and similar backgrounds–not important, or at least so people say in polls. Participants will complete a survey and a hands-on activity.
Most meetings are held the fourth Saturday of the month, from 11:30am to 3:00pm, and includes a brief business meeting, lunch and networking, followed by a program given by a guest speaker. These programs cover everything from the basics of fiction writing to the business of being published, and everything in-between. For more information, including dates and topics, please click on the Programs link above.
Our annual Beach Retreat, Masterclass, and Hermit Weeks are famous all over the country, drawing attendees from as far away as Maine and California. Click on Retreat above for more information.

Buoyed by the fresh salt air, inspired by the city’s magnificent gardens and homes, and emboldened by the fierce pride Charlestonians feel about both their history and their future, the published and aspiring romance writer can find no better place to indulge her imagination than the magical realm of the Lowcountry of South Carolina.
We hope you’ll join us!
